ABBEY ROAD: is a wide tree lined avenue extending 1.7 miles from Dalton Lane, south east towards “Barrow Railway Station gateway” to the town centre. HAWCOAT: Is the town’s northern most suburb situated 0.51 miles east of the A590 on the northern edge of Barrow. The long established Hawcoat suburb overlooks the coast. It is centred around the Furness General Hospital and close by the Furness Abbey and Furness Rugby Ground.East of Glenridding Drive The Gardens is an area with 30 large detached executive homes. A new Local Plan indicates scope for new home building in an area north of Helvellyn Walk.
HOLBECK,ROOSE: The eastern part of Barrow is the site of most of the recent growth in the town. Holbeck is 2.1 miles east of the town centre. Holbeck(0.52 miles), Flass Lane and Roose and are all quite close to Roose Railway Station for commuting. There is a Tesco supermarket, local shops, takeaway fish and chip shops at Leece Lane/Holbeck Road junction and chemists (by Well Lane), the Ship Inn,Yarlside and Crofters on Holbeck. Roose Garage offers MOT services.There are attractive walks leading north to Furness Abbey and south around Cavendish Dock and Westfield Nature Trail leading to Rampside and Roa Island.
RATING LANE: Also on the eastern edge of Barrow, 1.8 miles from the town centre, is the tree lined Rating Lane, Friars Lane and Flass Lane areas situated south east of the Abbey Road entrance to Barrow. NEWBARNS: This area around Bridgegate Road, Lesh Lane, Risedale Road is only 1 mile east of the town centre where there is an Aldi supermarket at the north end o.7 miles from the town centre and a range of local shops at the southern end lies close to the Park Leisure Centre and east entrance to Barrow Park and Furness Academy school.
TOWN CENTRE: The areas closer to Barrow town centre offer some of the main hotels and easy access to employers in the town centre and the shopping centre.In and around the centre are a choice of apartments, apartment hotels and rented terraced houses of two, three and four bed capacity.
The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel stands around 150m south west of the Barrow Railway Station.
